Situated in Laman Padi, the Rice Garden Museum compound, Laman Ria is a peaceful oasis on the edge of the pulsating Pantai Cenang. Those who drive will be pleased to find ample parking space. Crossing a bridge opposite the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort, the path to the restaurant leads through a herbal garden. The airy premises are surrounded by a pond with water plants, fish and turtles, and shielded in the back with tropical foliage that is home to various birds providing lovely background tune.
The menu includes Malay, Chinese, and Thai cuisine, as well as seafood delicacies, providing an excellent opportunity to explore the culinary art of the island’s various cultures. ‘Lazy Susan’, a circular rotating platform placed on top of the table, makes it convenient to sample various dishes, sharing with family or friends. Among the favorites are chilli tiger prawns, grilled lobster, and the traditional Chinese ‘steam boat’ with meat and seafood cooked directly on the table. Asian guests will be delighted to find the rare sea cucumber or shark fin soup. The true highlight? The restaurant is owned by a Japanese couple who personally prepares delicacies from their home country. A real treat, the Japanese specialties are one of the personal favorites of Tun Dr. Mahathir, the 4th Malaysian Prime Minister, whenever he visits the island!
For only 120 RM (or less if you join as a couple or in a group), you can participate in Japanese, Malay and Thai cooking classes. - A fun holiday activity but also a great way to revive the atmosphere of your vacation upon returning home!
