( highest is the Gunung Raya with ca. 900 m.)

Langkawi Cable Car - looking back to the Base Station

Base Station
(picture above):
The base station is in the Oriental Village at the foot hill of the Machincang mountain range.
Comfortable seated in new and modern gondolas you have a panoramic view of the surrounding forests, the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfall and the sea. You might also be able to catch glimpses of eagles, hornbills and other wild life.

Langkawi Cable Car - on the way upMiddle Station
The journey from the Base Station to Middle Station will cover 1,700 meters in length and upon reaching the Middle Station at an elevation of 650m above sea level. - You can now either take another cable car up to the peak, or lull around the observatory deck and admire the magnificent surroundings. Most will not spend too long here, as the view from the peak is even more amazing.

Langkawi Cable Car - Middle StationAfter a short queue, you can grab another cable car and ride up another wire cable which doesn’t rise too sharply, though the initial jolt of the car leaving the second station can feel quite unnerving. It will take you another 450 meters up to the Top Station.

Langkawi Cable Car - Top StationTop Station
A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station will take you to the two viewing platforms, the climax of the trip.
Here you will have a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the Langkawi islands, Kedah and Southern Thailand as well as of the deep chasms, overhanging cliff walls, isolated pinnacles and some caves.

Langkawi Cable Car - View from the TopA cafe at the Top Station offers delicious refresh-ments and unbeatable views with refreshing cool breezes, which allow you to enjoy Sunsets at 708m above sea-level where it is about 5 degrees (+/-) cooler than lowlands.

(But if you want to see the sunset - you might have to walk back down ....in the dark. Not a good idea.)

Langkawi Cable car - Curved Hanging BridgeCurved Hanging Bridge

A further attraction is a 125m curved platform, a pedestrian bridge across a deep valley, linking the Top Station with the Machincang mountain range.

(It was opened to public in February 2005 and won a few recognition awards for its incredible design.)

Jungle Trekking

For the adventurous visitors, a 2.5 Kilometers jungle track linking Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) to the Middle and Top Stations has been built to allow visitors a safe and secure hike. Along the hike-up, visitors will observe at first hand the unique change in the flora from the lowland to the top as well as the many species of flora endemic only to the Machincang forest reserve. They will also observe the numerous geological features along the route.

A short 20 minutes trekking between the Middle Station and Top Station has also been built for the visitors to explore the valley between the two stations.

Some testimonies from the Trip Advisor, where this attraction is currently rated as the No 7 of  62 .

Amazing views of beautiful Langkawi
The cable-car and sky-bridge are definitely worth a visit and afford great views over the whole island of Langkawi. However, you should be aware that the path from the upper cable-car station down to the sky-bridge and back is quite steep and strenuous if you have difficulty walking or heath problems etc. Also, a previous poster(and a guide-book on Langkawi) writes that a walking track loops down to the next cable-car landing (middle station, red.). However, we and some other people attempted this, but it appeared to go in the opposite direction to the cable-car, so we turned back. Some signs would be useful to give direction

Brilliant View
We got to the cable shortly after it opened so there were no queues (which there were when we came back down). The ride up is quite a long one which sways a bit in the wind, but the views over the island at the top were breath taking. Besides the beaches this was our fav activity in Langkawi and well worth the visit!
