Those who followed the Langkawi Forum in the Tripadvisor in the last weeks, became aware, that we have now indeed a Jellyfish problem (same as in Phuket!)..
One post mentions: “…just been reading a recent review of The Pelangi where the reviewer was hospitalised by a jellyfish sting, he mentioned that the hospital said that he was the 6th person that day.”
The Jellyfish thread has at the moment 54 articles…. you find it here.
Luckily no one was killed – this is the positive side.
And an other positive side is, that the local authorities, LADA, and the Hospital and more and more Hotels and Resorts along the beaches have become aware of the problem, and LADA is already doing something:
Another Jellyfish Operation by LADA on July 25th
Following the previous jellyfish operation trial run on July 17th, there will be another operation organised by LADA:
Date: 25 JULY 2010 (Sunday)
Time: 10:00am-4:00pm
Meeting Point: KUALA CENANG FISHING VILLAGE (near Boat Quay)
Contact Person: OSMAN at h/p: 019-5935338 or email address: rimbawi@gmail. com.
Please contact Osman directly for further details and the exact location. (Best to call him).
Note: From the information we gathered from Osman, there will be scooping of jellyfishes during the operation. Therefore, it is best to wear clothing that will help to protect yourself. For e.g, wearing a long sleeve shirt or rash guard and long pants/long tights. To those who are keen to learn what species of jellyfishes are found in our waters here, this is the best opportunity. We hope to have marine experts or cnidaria specialists on this day to teach us jellyfish species identification. Fingers crossed!!
