Tourism industry concerned by lack of action on beachfront abuse, safety and upkeep of island
THE authorities may like to think of it as "Langkawi Permata Kedah" (Langkawi the pearl of Kedah), but the goings-on at some of the major attractions on the island are putting off visitors.
Even the people involved in the tourism sector have voiced concern that the island's allure as a premier destination was going downhill as reflected in the many negative comments posted on tripadvisor.com.

Wildlife Murders In Langkawi
Of all the diurnal primates found on Langkawi, they are the shiest and gentle among all. They usually mind their own business and take off when you get close to them. Their shyness and gentleness are the unique traits that draw other primates to admire them and perhaps getting as near as possible to shoot them - with cameras.
This particular gentle diurnal primate is one our island's wildlife attraction, the Dusky Langur (Trachypithecus obscurus), which mostly can be found at the edge of the rainforest, in plantations or even nearby housing estates.
THE BEAUTY OF LANGKAWI
By Kamila Delart
It was love at first sight. Pristine island surrounded by the turquoise Andaman Sea, ancient rainforest with trees rooted in the depth of thousands of years, and their branches daringly reaching towards the sky. Bright orange of wild heliconias, and deep red of the ginger flowers. The tantalizing smell of a jackfruit in the air…
As per definition, ‘Love at first sight’ is the phenomenon of an instant attraction, inexplicable romantic feelings bordering on madness… A description implying that this state of sensory intoxication is far too intense as that it could last.

The following Blog Article, written by Paul Penders after a Beach Cleaning action with Captain Eva, reflects upon some Basics which are very important for our Island .
Small Habits That Create A Better World
Compare a happy R&D of a small natural cosmetics company with a happy gathering of local youngsters. The R&D play in our labs and local children play on our land and all of them enjoy astonishing sea views. One party is protected from the hot sun under a roof; the other uses the shadow of a palm tree. Yet all feel happy but under a different circumstance. What is this story about?

Eva: My letter to the Langkawi Gazette
Dear Malaysians and ex-pats of Langkawi
and to the rest of this world . . .
Some of you surely know me, I am Eva, skipper of the Damai Indah, Blue Water Star Sailing.
I am writing to you, to inform you about my new project here in Langkawi.
A few months ago I established a company called REVITACURA.
My website will be up and running again within a few days.
Now I am pretty sure that you are aware of the problem of overweight and obesity here on the island. (This is an almost worldwide epidemic, a dramatically increasing serious medical situation that is very scary, if you ask me).
The aim of REVITACURA is to help young overweight and obese people on Langkawi to overcome their condition.

Mangoes 2nd Anniversary Party !
Mangoes restaurant, located in Kuala Teriang, celebrated its two year anniversary this week. It can proudly state, that it has been well accepted and is today well established as a stable place for the homesick westerners and many tourists. Congratulations !!
The owners, Michele and Lutz, put on a delicious buffet for the forty-odd guests in attendance. Mangoes menu style is western splashed with German flavours; but for the celebrations the Aussie influence of owner Michele stepped in. Assortments of tasty BBQ treats were dished out along with complimentary drinks. Live music and singing were also included, to entertain the jovial crowd. A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all.
Mangoes restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday: the kitchen opens from 6pm – 10pm.

No, no, no - the Langkawi Gazette is NOT FOR SALE
I am asked again and again if the LG was for sale. No it is not.
At some time in the past, many months ago, I thought about the future of the LG – how to expand it to the next level – and as I had nobody to help me, looked around, who could take it over.
Facts are: I found nobody who was willing to really invest the amount of time (or finance) to keep it up and expand it - BUT I found two good helpers (Kamila Delart and Teviot Fairservis).

Housesitting
from Tony McDonald - Housesitter in Langkwi
Keeping your home and pets safe when you go away
Leaving your home, pets and garden when you go away on holiday or business can be a worry and employing the services of a house sitting agency or taking your pets to kennels could add a substantial amount to the cost of going away.

The lights are still on at Paul Penders in Langkawi
Some time ago the Langkawi Gazette brought the 'News", that Paul Penders and his company moved to Penang. We would like to rectify this:
It is true that Paul Penders is now ALSO on Penang, but part of the company remains in Langkawi. Paul Penders still owns the beautiful premises on the sea just outside of Kuah and there are big plans with the land and buildings. We will inform you as soon as we have more information.
One thing is for sure: Paul Penders remains a player on Langkawi. :-)
A Review of the
Langkawi One Earth Jazz/World Music Festival
By Patrick Low, Editor,
Langkawi Link Vacation Guide
With 6 pictures
Being a die-hard music fan on an island with no live music except retro cover bands at hotel lounges, I was overjoyed back in October to find out that a jazz and world music festival was coming to the Frangipani resort in November, the first music festival probably since the late Ibrahim Hussain’s Langkawi International Festival of Arts back in 2000.

Repeated Tm NET Cable theft on Langkawi -
now in Kisap for the 2nd time within a week -
disrupting Internet and Phone Service
It has happened on other parts of the island before. There – after a few times – TM NET has simply not replaced the cables anymore. TM NET wrote to the customers “Sorry – we can not provide any service any more in your area”.
So our editor who lives in one of these areas (close to the ‘Datai Junction'), has no TM NET cable internet connection anymore, only Wifi, which is clearly slower.
