I personally do not use Credit Cards. I have 2 close friends who had money deducted from their credit cards after using them in an ATM on Langkawi. One was an ATM in the Airport, the other the ATM of a big bank in Kuah. Both got their money back eventually - after a long procedure and threatening to go to police. They were lucky, as the money had been deducted from somewhere far away (one from Bangkok) - and they could prove they were here during this time. But this might not always be possible.
Make your own judgement.
At least I would use only a Debit Card or a Credit Card with limited Credit and see, that I would not have too much money on the account.
