THE BEAUTY OF LANGKAWI
By Kamila Delart
It was love at first sight. Pristine island surrounded by the turquoise Andaman Sea, ancient rainforest with trees rooted in the depth of thousands of years, and their branches daringly reaching towards the sky. Bright orange of wild heliconias, and deep red of the ginger flowers. The tantalizing smell of a jackfruit in the air…
As per definition, ‘Love at first sight’ is the phenomenon of an instant attraction, inexplicable romantic feelings bordering on madness… A description implying that this state of sensory intoxication is far too intense as that it could last.

Founded 1,5 year ago, MEGA WATER SPORTS are the pioneers who introduced to Langkawi guided jet ski tours. Passionate about the breathtaking nature of the Langkawi Archipelago, the owner spent more than half a year exploring the most beautiful spots, measuring low and high tides and detecting underwater rocks to determine the best routes, and design the perfect tours! The various options are rated based on difficulty: The slow-paced, short distance ‘Three Island Tour’ is suitable for families with kids above four years.
Tourism industry concerned by lack of action on beachfront abuse, safety and upkeep of island
THE authorities may like to think of it as "Langkawi Permata Kedah" (Langkawi the pearl of Kedah), but the goings-on at some of the major attractions on the island are putting off visitors.
Even the people involved in the tourism sector have voiced concern that the island's allure as a premier destination was going downhill as reflected in the many negative comments posted on tripadvisor.com.

Wildlife Murders In Langkawi
Of all the diurnal primates found on Langkawi, they are the shiest and gentle among all. They usually mind their own business and take off when you get close to them. Their shyness and gentleness are the unique traits that draw other primates to admire them and perhaps getting as near as possible to shoot them - with cameras.
This particular gentle diurnal primate is one our island's wildlife attraction, the Dusky Langur (Trachypithecus obscurus), which mostly can be found at the edge of the rainforest, in plantations or even nearby housing estates.

HIDDEN TREASURES
A Nature Tour on Pulau Tuba
By Kamila Delart
MORE ABOUT TUBA TOURS SEE HERE
Since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by secret hidden places. I loved the adventure. The mystery. The magic. And until today, not much has changed. So when I hear about a discovery tour on Tuba Island, a secluded isle barely touched by tourism, the news immediately strike a chord with me.
Only a few days later, I find myself on a longboat departing from the Marble Jetty. The trip takes only about fifteen minutes. And yet, there seems to be a gap of twenty, thirty years between the two islands. The few tiny roads lead through rubber plantations, besides paddy fields with grazing buffalos, and along a river covered by thousands of wild hyacinth. There are a few Malay villages, and a secluded settlement with simple shacks built of driftwood, rising on stilts from the sea to provide a shelter to Thai fishermen. But most of the island is still uninhabited, overgrown with a dense jungle.

Last weekend, I went to the Langkawi Craft Complex on the invitation from Madam Norizan Lob, the Director of Langkawi Craft Complex. The auditorium and the meeting room is also opened for rental.

Geysers of water bouncing off the bow. The thrill of speed. Conquest of the ocean… Images that come to my mind when picturing a jet ski adventure. I have to admit, an adrenalin-kick does have its own appeal. But then - I am not the most daring person. So when I come across MEGA WATER SPORTS that offer apart from the ‘hard core’ jet ski trips also guided sightseeing tours through the breathtaking Langkawi Archipelago, I am truly intrigued. What an original idea!

THE PURSUIT OF A DREAM
By Kamila Delart
Review see here
Always in search of new spa and wellness services launched on our beautiful island, I am excited to explore the treatment offerings of CACI’S BEAUTY AND WELLNESS, a center that recently opened in Kuah. I read through the menu and it is like unwrapping a birthday present. Eyebrow threading? I’m on cloud nine! Much faster than plucking, and way more precise than waxing, this ancient Indian hair removal technique is my absolute favorite. Since CACI’S BEAUTY AND WELLNESS is the only place on the entire island offering this service, I hurry up to make an appointment before the word spreads, and I end up queuing…
WIDE SPREAD WINGS
By Kamila Delart
Since I arrived in Langkawi, my days begin with a beautiful ritual: Still a little sleepy, I sit on my back porch, sip delicious green tea with a few drops of local wild honey, and watch all these beautiful exotic birds twirling around. There are the tiny yellow fellows joyfully singing as they jump from branch to branch. The black one with his far too long wings that look as if they were borrowed from some grown-up brother. And when I’m lucky, I spot this beautiful turquoise bird with orange belly crossing my river. What a wonderful way to greet the day!

What’s new at the Oriental Village
by Zam
Langkawi’s new attraction is the Duck Tour which started operations with its soft launch last November 2011.
The 'Duck' has wheels for starters, big wheels and it keeps on going no matter what the terrain. The trip starts at the Oriental Village where the cable car departs from and trundles down to a ramp at Telaga harbour 2 Kilometers from the cable car. It then plunges into the water, takes a 15 minute tour of the marina and the boats at anchor outside and then trundles back up to the cable car. It gives the passengers the exhilaration of both land and sea. The total tour duration is 45 minutes.
The Duck Tours are located at the Ticketing Kiosk at the Oriental Village Main Entrance. They operate daily from 9.30 am till 5.30 pm depending on the weather.
The rates for adults is RM38.00 and children pay RM22.00.

From humble beginnings to one of the most popular places in Langkawi! Faded newspaper clippings tell the story of a tiny home-eatery in Kuah . . .
The following Blog Article, written by Paul Penders after a Beach Cleaning action with Captain Eva, reflects upon some Basics which are very important for our Island .
Small Habits That Create A Better World
Compare a happy R&D of a small natural cosmetics company with a happy gathering of local youngsters. The R&D play in our labs and local children play on our land and all of them enjoy astonishing sea views. One party is protected from the hot sun under a roof; the other uses the shadow of a palm tree. Yet all feel happy but under a different circumstance. What is this story about?

Royal Langkawi
International Regatta –
Day 5
The elements came out to play on the final day of the 2012 Royal Langkawi International Regatta.
Good breeze, relatively flat seas and blue skies gave everyone a taste of tropical racing, Langkawi-style.
Two races were schedules for IRC Racing, IRC 2 and Multihulls, three for IRC 1 and one for the rest.
Going into the final day, the hotly-contested one-design Sports Boat Class was all equal at the top between Singapore Management University and the Malaysian Armed Forces.
First off the line today were IRC Racing. Team HiFi closely covered Hooligan up the first leg and after the rounding, Hooligan stretched out a lead on the spinnaker run only for Team HiFi to take the win on corrected time.
In the second race, Hooligan showed some good crew work to take the bullet and the series title, from Team HiFi in second.
The Malaysian Navy team, Uranus, turned in two third places today to finish third overall........

VOWS OVER THE OCEAN

I’m not sure about guys. But every girl indulges from time to time in day dreaming. Envisioning a romantic proposal, picturing a fairytale wedding. The fantasies may vary, but exchanging vows that join two people for life certainly calls for a spectacular setting. So I am not surprised to learn that Audrey and Jérôme, an adorable French couple, chose to celebrate their wedding on the luxury Yacht DAMAI INDAH LAGI, planning to say ‘I do’ in the breathtaking sunset over the Andaman Sea.
Royal Langkawi
International Regatta -
Day 4
Today was make or break for many at the 2012 Royal Langkawi International Regatta, as the Coastal Course Area was the battleground for what could be the series-deciders in some classes.
This showed as today, Friday 13th, saw plenty of startline action and OCS in a number of classes.
In the IRC Racing Class Hooligan started the day with a commanding lead, and a strong performance today meant they could wrap up the series one day early.
Windward-Leewards saw some tight battles as nearest rival, Team HiFi, pushed Hooligan hard. A tactical duel saw Hooligan finish first and second, and Team HiFi second and first.
At the other end of the class, the two closely matched Malaysian Navy entries, sailing identical DK47s, saw Uranus come out on top with a third and a fourth today.
Tactics have played a big part over the first four days as wind conditions have varied from 4 knots gusting to over 20, with a mix courses including Windward-Leewards, coastal courses and yesterday’s ‘Round-The-Islands’ course............

Royal Langkawi International Regatta –
Day 3
Langkawi was on full show today as all classes lined up for the ‘Round-the-Islands’ course.
The stunning archipelago, with it’s idyllic coves and beaches, provided a magnificent back-drop for competitors who today were treated to a true taste of sailing in the tropics. The fleet was split in half, each racing a slightly different course around the archipelago.
The Ocean Rover and Club Classes came into their own today as these more cruising-style boats enjoyed the longer scenic course and the chance to stretch their legs.
A downwind spinnaker-start was set. As boats beared down on the line it was a case of ‘do we or don’t we’ for some, and ‘when to hoist’ for others, as a series of combined starts proved interesting all round.
In the Multihulls, Fantasia got a flyer off the startline and left the rest of the fleet standing. She continued over the horizon to take line honours and first place.
Andaman Cabriolet Nina, enjoyed the stronger winds and lumpy seas to put in a good performance and secure second....

We do normally only report about Langkawi here, but for once let us make an exception:
If you want to travel to Thailand, and do speak German - have a look at this website here:
It is a website about Thailand and it's hidden treasures - not known by the mainstream tourisme.
The author, Paul Martini, lives since 2001 mostly in Hua Hin in Thailand. His reports about these special places beside the main roads are very thoroughly researched and do go in great depth. They all include a lot of pictures (which one can also see in a bigger size in a PICASA site).
Don't let you turn off by some of the google ads - nothing is perfect. This website is nevertheless a true treasure in itself and deserves to be named.
