Durian Perangin Waterfall – NOT NOW !!
Mark: 19 March 2010
Trying to start to go out and visit the places I want to write about, I thought it would be a good idea to go and see if I could find the Durian Perangin Waterfall. (I tried to find out the meaning of this name. 'Durian' is obviously the fruit - but 'Perangin' I could not find. Google translates it with "suri", which does not make sense for me. If anyone knows the meaning of this name, please write it in the comments below. Thank you!).

After posting the ‘Sad Story of the Langkawi Events 2010” – we found out a bit more:
Our local LTAC (Langkawi Tourism Action Council) which was in the LADA Building (LADA = Langkawi Development Authority) has been dissolved and all responsibility was given to ‘Kedah Tourism’. Nobody there speaks really good English - the whole tourism dept can barely speak English.

The Sad Story about the 'Langkawi Events' 2010
Mark: 14 March 2010
In the past years LADA organised nearly a dozen events every year and published a list of Events in the beginning of the year on
http://www.lada.gov.my/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=84
(The website has no translation into English).
This seems to have changed.
The LADA website is not updated anymore in re to Langkawi Events.
(There are still the 2009 Events listed).

Diving & Snorkeling around Langkawi
You will be told, that the waters around Langkawi are not clear enough for snorkeling or diving - and that this is so - at least partly - because of the natural sediments contained in the rivers flowing into the sea.
Therefore everybody is told to go to Pulau Payar for diving and snorkeling, where the water is clear. Organised tours will take you there. (See: Diving and Snorkeling at Pulau Payar).
BUT - there are some spots around Langkawi, on the beaches of nearby islands of the Langkawi Archipelago, where the water IS clear enough.

Bye bye to Jason Kruse, GM of Casa del Mar
Mark: 5 March 2010
We are sad to loose Jason - who managed to make the Casa del Mar the No ONE Resort on Langkawi - as voted by the Trip Advisor - and has taken up a lot of responsibility for Langkawi in many individual voluntary actions.
He also contributed the "Langkawi Destination Manual" to our Langkawi Gazette, one of the best, if not THE best put-together about Langkawi for the interested visitor.
We wish him all the best in his new challenge on the Maldives and also want to wish his successor, Tom, a good start in Langkawi. Welcome Tom !
Here is Jason's own statement:

Some Problems with Jet Skis & Para-Sailing in Langkawi
Bob: 13 Feb. 2010
In the Trip Advisor Forum there is yet another complaint about an accident with a Para-Sailor damaging the instruments on the top of the mast of a sailing boat with an entangled rope (endangering the flier to fall down) and a further complaint of a Jet Ski scratching the Gel-Coat on another yacht.
It seems advisable for sailing boats not to cruise or anchor at the Pantai Cenang coast, if not necessary.

Langkawi: I saw my first Cobra
Mark: 9 January 2010
Today I either saved a cat from a snake or a snake from the cat.
I don’t know which one. Here are some pics of the snake – it came just to the entrance of the house and if the door would have been open – it would probably have rendered us a visit.....

I have no clue about snakes – but this seems to be a Cobra. Hm.. didn’t know we have Cobras here, but it certainly looks like one (see the other pics).

The Langkawi Wildlife Park
Mark / Shirley, 15 July 2009
Get up-close with your feathered and furry friends !
Mark: Living in Langkawi for 7 years – I had not been there. It was known to me as “Bird Paradise” and as I am not specially drawn to see birds in small cages - I did not go there. What a mistake !:-))
The Bird Paradise changed it’s name in 2006 and became the Langkawi Wildlife Park.
