At Cactus Restaurant & Cafe
20 March 2009, Friday
Me and my siblings are very close to our cousins, Stephanie and Sharlene, who is now living in Brisbane for over 5 years. They came back to Malaysia to celebrate CNY with their family and we didn't even manage to meet up when they were in Langkawi. Therefore, a couple of days before they went back to Australia, I planned to bring them out to the beach and a nice dinner.
The weather was fine, the sun was warm and the breeze was soothing. It's a perfect day to chill out at the beach.

Jump for joy!
We came up with this "jumping pictures" idea. I volunteered to take their photos, and I think this is the best one I took.

Cenang Beach was crowded with beach-goers. I sat on a mat, listening to the waves, the wind, and the laughter of children playing on the shore. It felt very good and relaxing. As the night drew near, the fiery sun gradually lost its glow and slowly set beyond the horizon.

I pestered the kids to get cleaned up and dressed up for dinner. After they're done, we made our way to Cactus Restaurant & Cafe in Pantai Tengah.

Inside Cactus Restaurant.
Upon arrival, the restaurant was already packed with foreign diners, and we were the only Asian customers there.
This spot is very popular with tourists, especially Germans staying nearby, as the friendly staff speak fluent German and make the guests feel very much at home. The ambience is simple and casual with 1960's and contemporary background music.

Satay
First to arrive was Satay. Unlike the 25-cents-per-stick satay you find at the night market, these chicken skewers were meaty and juicy. I could barely taste any trace of chicken fat in between.

Tom Yam Soup
Traditional Thai favourite with seafood, vegetables and lemongrass. I found this ok, not the best one I had.

Spaghetti Bolognese
Minced beef in tomato concusses sauce, served over spaghetti. All of us loved the spaghetti! Espacially when it's topped with some parmesan cheese.

Barracuda with Butter Garlic Sauce
Deep-fried marinated fish fillet, topped with homemade cream butter garlic sauce. This dish was absolutely delectable. The sauce was creamy and thick, which went perfectly well with the fish.

Foo Yong Omelet
Chinese style three-egg omelet with thinly sliced vegetables and prawns. This dish was ordered specially for Calvin who is an egg lover.

Calamari
Squid marinated in garlic batter and dee-fried.

Banana Fritters with Yam Ice-cream
This dish was highly recommended! Sliced bananas were coated with batter and deep-fried, served with yam ice-cream. The fritters should be eaten together with ice-cream. The hot-N-cold sensation would send you on cloud nine.

After 2 minutes...
We all loved it so much that we finished the whole plate in 2 mintues! The owner of the restaurant saw that we enjoyed this dessert very much, he served us one more serving for FREE.

The outing with my siblings and cousins that day was great! We won't be able to spend much time together like so in the future. But those fun and exciting moments will always remain vividly in my memory and they're worth cherished for the rest of my life.
